Finnish Parliament to mark 110th anniversary of women’s suffrage

The Parliament of Finland will assemble for a special plenary session to mark the 110th anniversary of women’s suffrage on 1 June 2016 at 2 pm. On 1 June, it will be exactly 110 years since Finland’s Parliament Act and Election Act were first approved. One of the key reforms introduced by the new legislation was universal and equal suffrage.

The special plenary session will take the form of a topical debate on the theme of the “Role of equality in promoting social stability and progress”. Following an opening address by the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, each parliamentary group will give a five-minute address on the topic. The session will conclude with a formal three cheers for the Republic of Finland. The estimated duration of this session in 50 minutes.
