On Wednesday, 16 May, the Parliament accepted the broad economic and trade agreement signed between Canada and the European Union and its member states. The decision was made in the plenary session with the vote 141 in favour and 42 against.

At the same time, the Parliament accepted a resolution in which it insists that the Government immediately starts the re-evaluation of the reform of the Mining Act and presents the proposed amendments for the Parliament's approval so that they can be entered into force during this parliamentary term.

For the EU, CETA is the first agreement on a free-trade zone ever signed with a North American country. The agreement does not cover public services. Finland has an opt-out for social welfare and health care services and the statutory employment pension insurance in the agreement. In addition, Finland introduced a limitation to the agreement on medicine distribution services and retail sales and the alcohol retail monopoly.
