Paula Risikko Elected as New Speaker of Parliament

The Parliament of Finland elected its speakers in a plenary session on February 5. 

Paula Risikko of the National Coalition Parliamentary Group was elected as the Speaker with 157 votes in favour.

Paula Risikko was first elected to Parliament in 2003. She is the second most experienced female minister in the Finnish history with nearly 10 years in the government. She has also acted as the Second Deputy Speaker of the Parliament (2015–16).

Mauri Pekkarinen of the Centre Party Parliamentary Group carries on as the First Deputy Speaker. Tuula Haatainen (Social Democratic Parliamentary Group) was elected as the Second Deputy Speaker.​
