Audit Committee

The Audit Committee's responsibilities include overseeing the legality and appropriateness of State finances and compliance with the State budget (Constitution, section 90). The Audit Committee handles, among other things, the Government Annual Report to Parliament, the annual report of the National Audit Office of Finland and its reports on political party and election campaign funding, as well as the separate reports on the audit of state finances and control of fiscal policy monitoring, the reports of the auditors of the parliament, and prepares matters concerning the supervision of state finances. The Audit Committee is responsible for evaluating applicants for the position of Auditor General of the National Audit Office. The Audit Committee has the right, on its own initiative, to take up a matter within its scope and prepare a report on it for the plenary session. The Audit Committee also commissions investigations into the effectiveness and efficiency of the government's measures. The tasks of the Audit Committee do not include the handling of matters related to complaints about the management of the state's finances. The Committee therefore does not deal with complaints addressed to it or other similar writings.
