Use of cookies

The public online services of the Finnish Parliament use cookies.

The essential search service cookies enable the use of the search services and results. The user should not disable these cookies.

We use non-essential cookies to collect visitor statistics and analyse information. Our goal is to develop the quality and content of our website from the perspective of visitors. Visitors can enable the non-essential cookies by selecting “Enable all cookies” on the site. Visitors can disable statistics cookies by selecting “Disable statistics cookies”.

A cookie is a small text file sent to and stored on the visitor’s computer. Cookies do not harm visitors’ computers or files. Please note that disabling cookies may prevent the full functions of some services.
The website uses both session cookies and tracking cookies. The session cookies collected on our site function for as long as the browser remains open but are deleted when the browser is closed. Only the tracking cookies used to identify new and returning visitors are stored more permanently.

The user’s browser indicates whether a tracking cookie has already been set. If there are no existing tracking cookies, a new cookie is set in the browser. We never disclose user information collected from tracking cookies to third parties.

However, the use of the online services of the Finnish Parliament (website, webcasts, open data) requires visitors to enable cookies from external organisations.

Parliament uses three types of first-party cookies. They are used to:

  • save the visitor’s selections
  • enable the use of the site
  • collect analytical data (on visitor behaviour)

Analytics/statistics

We use third-party analytics software (Siteimprove) on our site to set a tracking cookie on visitors’ computers. The cookie tracks whether visitors of the site are returning visitors. Analytics cookies are non-essential cookies can they can be disabled by the visitor when using the online services of Parliament.
