Parliament passed the third supplementary budget for 2020

The parliament has passed the third supplementary budget for 2020.

The aim of the budget is to fund Finnair, ease the financial burden of restaurants, and ease the costs of controlling and preventing the spread of COVID-19. The budget is in effect from May 27 2020.

The Finance committee stated in their report that because of its strategic importance, funding the Finnish airliner Finnair by 700 million euros is justified. The committee saw the continuation of temporarily cancelled routes as important, to improve the viability of provinces and to facilitate the operation of international companies.

As part of the supplementary budget the parliament supported a government guarantee of up to EUR 432 million on loans granted under SURE, the EU instrument for temporary support to mitigate unemployment risk in an emergency, and a guarantee of up to EUR 372 million to the EIB against possible losses from the EU COVID-19 guarantee fund.

Parliament accepted the supplementary budget proposal according to the committee report.
