The Speakers of parliaments of Nordic and Baltic countries had a virtual meeting on April 16. The meeting was hosted by Speaker Matti Vanhanen of Finland. The speakers discussed COVID-19 in the countries and how parliaments have responded to prevent the spread of the virus. All parliaments had implemented measures to secure the processes of legislative work. The agenda of the global speakers’ meeting was also discussed, especially in terms of the themes the leaders of NB8 parliaments would emphasize.
The annual Nordic-Baltic parliament speakers’ conference was scheduled for May in Helsinki but postponed due to the pandemic. The video meeting was held to discuss the current situation and to lay the groundwork for the conference, to be held in Finland on a later date.
