LXII COSAC-kokous

COSAC on EU:n jäsenmaiden kansallisten parlamenttien EU-valiokuntien ja Euroopan parlamentin edustajien konferenssi.

Helsingin COSAC-konferenssissa käydään vapaata poliittista keskustelua, jonka toivotaan tulevaisuudessa johtavan konkreettisiin tekoihin Euroopassa.  

Oikeusvaltioperiaatteen vahvistaminen on yksi Suomen EU-puheenjohtajakauden teemoista. COSAC-konferenssissa keskustellaan myös oikeusvaltioperiaatteen ja perusoikeuksien suhteesta. Kymmenen vuotta sitten Euroopan unionin perusoikeuskirja integroitiin EU:n yhteisön säännöstöön, mikä oli merkittävä askel kohti yhtenäisempää EU-politiikkaa.

Puheenjohtajamaa kehottaa valtuuskuntia arvioimaan aiempia saavutuksia näillä aloilla ja ehdottamaan, mihin suuntaan EU:n täytyisi tästä edetä. Myöskin turvallisuuden ja perusoikeuksien välistä dynamiikkaa olisi hyvä pohtia.

COSAC-konferenssissa keskustellaan lisäksi aiheesta ”Voittoisa ilmastostrategia Eurooppaan”. Eurooppalaisten innovoijien alustusten pohjalta valtuuskuntia kehotetaan keskustelemaan siitä, kuinka ilmasto- ja energiapolitiikka voisivat toimia perustana uuden taloudellisen kehityksen aikakaudelle Euroopassa.

Itse konferenssista keskustellaan myös. Mitä teemme hyvin ja missä voimme kehittyä? Puheenjohtajavaltio toivoo näin uudistavansa ja elävöittävänsä COSAC:in työtä.
