Meeting of the Secretaries General of the EU Parliaments in Helsinki begins on 26 January

The Secretaries General of the European Parliament and the national Parliaments of the European Union will hold their annual meeting in Helsinki on 26 and 27 January 2020. The Secretaries General will discuss the programme of the EU Speakers' Conference (17 - 19 May) and the institutional aspects of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the EU.

The Secretaries general will devote a session to the proposed revision of the Guidelines for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the EU, increased use of technology in inter-parliamentary cooperation and the organisation of the first Interparliamentary Committee Meeting on Eurojust. The Finnish presidency has prepared reports on these three subjects. The session will also discuss the current state of the EU's Early Warning Mechanism and Political Dialogue mechanism, following the Conclusions of the latest COSAC conference.

The Secretaries General will hear a report on upgrades to the Parliaments' information exchange system IPEX.
